The first British census was actually taken in 1801, and the subsequent censuses were taken every ten years thereafter. However, the censuses before 1841. Read more about British census research
A “Stray” is: a recorded event in which a person is described in the record as being from or connected with, a place (such as a County) outside the area in which they normally lived.
A Workhouse is. A house built or used to house destitute (poor) people. Employment was provided. The Oxford Dictionary states: A workhouse for the poor and house of correction for vagrants and disorderly people. See The Workhouse
