Fresno City student among college journalists who got a surprise in the nationals capital

Friday, April 29, 2016

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) —

A Fresno City College student got the opportunity of his life Thursday at the nation’s capitol. Having been chosen as a student journalist to visit the White House Patrick Forrest never expected to interview the president.

Fifty Student reporters from all over the country converged on the White House. Meeting with the chief of staff, White House advisors, and finally Josh Earnest, President Obama’s press secretary.

President Obama caught the student journalists by surprise when he walked in in the middle of the press briefing. The president talked about student loans and education, but he also gave a few of the journalists the opportunity to ask him questions.

Forrest, a student journalist from the Fresno City College Rampage, had the opportunity to ask the final question of the day. It was a question about the election process and a recent poll asking Americans whether the process was rigged.

“He talked about everything– Money and politics, gerrymandering and then he went on for about ten minutes,” said Forrest.

The answer was closer to four minutes but it was a long answer compared to those he gave to the rest of the students.

Forrest said it’s an experience he won’t soon forget and it will certainly give him lots to write about when he returns home.
