A sports management degree prepares you for a career that combines business and athletics. The specialized curriculum for this degree helps you develop skills and knowledge that sports management staff previously gained by trial and error or through on-the-job-training. On the opposite side of this career area, you can find work as a representative, or agent, for the players. This entails representing clients during contract negotiations and helping them find endorsement and other business opportunities.

With a financial focus in sports management, you track, evaluate and report the financial activities of an organization or team. You might make financial forecasts, create annual or special event budgets, monitor revenue streams and control expenses. Many of these jobs require you to make budget adjustments and decisions that affect everything from ticket and merchandise prices to salaries.
